Army Officer Dagger. WKC, knight's helmet TM.WWII German Army Officers Dress Dagger with WKC Solingen stamped logo.
WKC crossguard with "tomahawk" beak design and scabbard with one flat head pattern side-mount, throat retaining screw as used later in the period.
Silver-plated pommel, ferrule and crossguard show uniform uncleaned dark age patina with minor lifting or crazing to plating.*see close up photo details
Medium yellow, solid celluloid grip shows minor surface wear/age speckling with one small chip adjacent to pommel.
Mirror polished blade grades EX++ showing light surface wear/runner marks to the flats of the blade and a few tiny gray specks near tip, but no nicks to cutting edges.
Dent-free silver-plated steel scabbard retains much of original factory frosting on scabbard edges with age patina and a few specks of oxidation to pebbled panels and to well detailed oak leaf suspension bands.
The 10" blade has the Knight's head trademark of "W.K.C".

WKC has been in business since 1883, but, due to the intensive Allied bombing of Solingen during WWII and the looting that occurred in the late stages of the war and soon thereafter, there are no WKC records prior to WWII.Most research into the history of a sword begins with trying to identify the sword maker. You may first consider that not all swords handcrafted in Germany, or in Solingen, Germany, were created by Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co. (WKC). This is sometimes not as easy as it should be. Sword producers place an identifying mark on the sword, commonly on the sword's ricasso (the ricasso is the unsharpened portion of the blade immediately above the guard).
All WKC swords are produce with the following mark on the blade.

The Limoges Porcelain Industry. Kaolin, the fine white clay essential to porcelain making, was discovered about 18 miles southwest of Limoges at St. Yrieix in 1765. The first porcelain factory in Limoges was established 6 years later in 1771. Within a few years, the factory became a branch of the royal manufacture at Sevres; porcelain blanks produced at Limoges during this period were decorated at Sevres. Production stopped in 1791 but was revived in 1797.
The vast and diverse production of the Sèvres factory in the nineteenth century resists easy characterization, and its history during this period reflects many of the changes affecting French society in the years between 1800 and 1900. Among the remarkable accomplishments of the factory was the ability to stay continuously in the forefront of European ceramic production despite the myriad changes in technology, taste, and patronage that occurred during this tumultuous century.
The factory, which had been founded in the town of Vincennes in 1740 and then reestablished in larger quarters at Sèvres in 1756, became the preeminent porcelain manufacturer in Europe in the second half of the eighteenth century. Louis XV had been an early investor in the fledgling ceramic enterprise and became its sole owner in 1759. However, due to the upheavals of the French Revolution, its financial position at the beginning of the nineteenth century was extremely precarious. No longer a royal enterprise, the factory also had lost much of its clientele, and its funding reflected the ruinous state of the French economy.

The CHADBURN TELEGRAPH SOCIETY was established in 1998 - 100 years after the Company had become a Public Limited Company (PLC) on the stock exhange in London. The great innovator , William Chadburn assisted by his father, Charles and a skilled team of engineers, soon created market domination . When the first patents expired in 1890s, the 'code' used in attractive graphics style on the dials, had become the accepted standard for other competitors . In order to distinguish a 'chadburn' - as an often used generic term - from the other famous means of 'passing the word' , i.e. morse code and marconi wireless telegraphy, a contemporary shift was deemed essential and the business then traded with ' (Ship) ' added.
